Considering that Wonder Woman made her debut as a supporting character instead of in her own movie, it"s no surprise that her backstory hasn"t always completely matched up, leading khổng lồ a pretty major plot hole.
In Batman v Superman, Diana Prince tells Bruce Wayne that she "walked away from mankind" a century ago, adding that "men made a world where standing together is impossible".

That led DC fans to think that her solo movie would show just what upset Diana so much, but that wasn"t quite what happened. Sure, she saw some pretty terrible things, but at the over of Wonder Woman, it seemed pretty likely that she"d continue to lớn help mankind.
So what gives? Did something happen just after World War I that led to her self-imposed exile from mankind? Luckily, Wonder Woman 1984 has resolved the plot hole for good & her Batman v Superman quote now makes sense (kind of).

On the Justice League press tour, Gal Gadot addressed the confusion by essentially admitting it was a mistake: "Sometimes in a creative process you establish something that is not necessarily the right decision. But then you can always correct it & change it."
However, matters were then confused when she hinted (on the same promotional tour) that Diana"s Batman v Superman quote wasn"t wrong as such, but wasn"t meant khổng lồ be taken as her literally walking away from mankind.
"What is clear is whether or not Wonder Woman was out there or incognito, she was always very involved & she was always very active in man"s world và she was always acting to lớn save, lớn help, and to better the world," Gadot told ScreenRant.
And Wonder Woman 1984 confirms that in the decades since World War I, Diana hadn"t walked away from mankind. It was more that she walked away from being as in the public eye as she was in Wonder Woman.

After an opening flashback to the Amazon Olympics, Wonder Woman 1984 reunites us with Diana as she"s foiling a robbery in a shopping mall. As she"s doing it though, Diana also takes the time khổng lồ destroy any security cameras that are filming her heroics.
When we saw this in the trailer, we thought it might tie into the Brother Eye storyline in the comics where Maxwell Lord takes over Batman"s satellite surveillance system, but it was nothing as elaborate as that.
Diana clearly just wants her heroics as Wonder Woman khổng lồ remain a secret, asking anyone she saves during the movie to keep things quiet. She"s happy to go around saving mankind, but she"d rather not get papped doing so.

Given how Maxwell Lord changes when he gets a hint of power, it"s probably a smart move on Diana"s part khổng lồ not show herself khổng lồ mankind as you can be sure there"d be someone nefarious other there wanting to take advantage.
So Wonder Woman hasn"t physically walked away from mankind before the events of Batman v Superman – she only walked away from the spotlight và didn"t flaunting her heroic ways lượt thích Superman does.
